Agarwood is the rarest incense in the world, requiring an Aquilaria tree to reach maturity, then become infected by a parasitic fungus. The tree creates a resin barrier to keep the infection from spreading, and after years of the resin barrier building up, only the barrier is incense. Because of its rarity, small supply, and long term demand, these trees are endangered in the wild.
